Lead VFX Artist

As the Lead VFX Artist you will have a critical role to play in creating, shaping and directing both our future VFX and a high calibre team of artists to deliver diverse and rich content that drives visual effects quality into the next generation of rewarding gameplay and cinematics. Our cutting-edge bespoke technology brings a myriad of possibilities that await your skill and imagination and allow us to push the boundaries of possibility.
You will work closely with the Art Director and contribute to shaping the vision for VFX in a truly collaborative environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be the pro-active artistic leader for the VFX by overseeing the quality, distinction, and style of VFX across the creative use of particles, geometry, and animation. Setting a bar for both excellence, and the studio’s reputation for cutting edge game development.
- Raise the bar with hands on delivery of quality VFX pre-visualisation, prototypes, and benchmarks with mastery.
- Maintain areas of the project’s direction and development documentation, with an ability to convey the abstract and sophisticated ideas, aesthetics, and technical areas of your discipline.
- Share your passion and knowledge of crafting VFX to lead, mentor and build the VFX team and encourage individual’s growth
- Work closely with the Design and Gameplay teams to develop, clean readable VFX that supports gameplay initiatives and empowers our players.
- Work closely with the Animation, Technical Art, and Technology teams to own and define the VFX tools and pipeline, including establishing technical standards, performance, and best practices.
- Work closely with art leadership and production to keep VFX artwork on schedule and scope (both in terms of style, quality, and delivery) for all studio productions.
- Collaborate with Art Management to build, source and extend our team with global AAA talent. Helping lead and train our external partners as well as reviewing and ensuring ultimate quality.
SKILLS
- You have excellent industry experience working within VFX on published AAA console titles. Working as ‘lead’ on at least one title.
- You have strong knowledge of 3D packages (Maya, Houdini, Max, etc.), as well as experience working with real-time particle and VFX editors.
- You have a strong understanding of technical considerations for VFX.
- You have strong problem-solving skills and experience for technically challenging tasks.
- You can communicate effectively with artists, technical team members and studio leadership.
- You have a strong interest in self-development of managerial skills, overseeing the work of other team members and mentoring and developing junior staff.
- You have a good understanding of shader and texture creation.
- You have excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate creative & technical ideas at all levels within a multidisciplinary team.
- You are an excellent planner and very organised. You can arbitrate sensitively between creative desires and production requirements.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience developing VFX in a variety of styles for AAA games with at least three published titles.
- Proven experience in defining and managing the technical and budgetary requirements for VFX production, delivering on specification and to deadline.
- Experience managing an internal and external art team.
